Scott Aukermanâ€™s â€śComedy Bang! Bang!â€ť is a talk show, but not really. Modeled after the podcast of the same name, the TV series (Fridays, 10 p.m., IFC) has all the aspects of a late-night gabfest: couches, house band Reggie Watts and celebrity guests. But it also has comedians like Paul F. Tompkins playing weirdo characters and out-there sketches that have little in common with â€śThe Tonight Show.â€ť For the second year in a row, Aukerman will be in D.C. on Tuesday for live shows featuring sketch group The Birthday Boys and podcast tapings.
Are people starting to recognize you?
I actually had a weird experience with someone recognizing me at a party recently. â€¦ All of a sudden someone is waving me over frantically and itâ€™s Jim Carrey. He tells me how much he loves the show and had a bunch of questions.
Are you going to get him on the show?
Iâ€™d like to. You never know what Jim Carreyâ€™s up to. Heâ€™s a mysterious man.
Whatâ€™s the format for this tour?
Iâ€™m going to come out and do some bits that Iâ€™ve been working on and then weâ€™re going to do a podcast. Sometimes it will just be [Tompkins] and I, sometimes there will be special guests. Iâ€™ve been experimenting with new things to do and ways to incorporate the crowd.
The TV show returns for the second half of Season 2 Friday. What can we expect?
[Thereâ€™s] the Pee-wee Herman Halloween episode, which was such a thrill to make. â€¦ He does all new Pee-wee bits. â€¦ The last episode is our Christmas episode with my favorite guest, Santa Claus.
Who is playing Santa?
Itâ€™s the real Santa Claus. Itâ€™s not Mommy or Daddy, if thatâ€™s what youâ€™re asking.
