Winter weather knows it’s finally time to take a hike. So, you’d better be prepared to get some exercise, too. Only an April fool would skip all three of these outdoor fitness programs:
Toned Up Tuesdays
New park, new you? Vida Fitness instructors are teaching free 45-minute classes at the just-opened Park at CityCenter (at the corner of 10th and I streets NW) every Tuesday in April at 6 p.m., starting today with a conditioning session. Up next on the schedule: power yoga. In addition to a sweat, participants will get fitness swag courtesy of CityCenterDC and City Sports, as well as refreshments from Protein Bar, Jrink Juicery and Healthy Bites.
Crystal Run 5K Fridays
The annual happy hour race series returns to 2121 Crystal Drive in Crystal City, Va., every Friday in April at 6:30 p.m. It’s $20 for one 5K, or $60 for all four (plus a T-shirt). Pacers Running Stores will be operating a Shoe Lab, so you can try out different kicks. And Sport & Health will provide complimentary access to its showers, so you can de-funkify yourself before dinner.
Cherry Blossom Yoga
A crowd of 3,000 people is expected to take over the lawn by the Washington Monument (Constitution Avenue and 15th Street NW) on Saturday at 10 a.m. Maybe that’ll encourage the blossoms to come out and join them. The all-levels class will be led by Lululemon ambassador Mimi Rieger, with help from an additional 50-plus local yoga instructors. Participation is free, but you must fill out a waiver (either on-site starting at 9 a.m., or in advance online at eventbrite.com).
