Steve's is far more laid-back on Wednesday for Mechanix, though just as hopping. DJs Sean Gone and guests lay down the music while instrumentalists hanging out near the DJ booth join in.
"I stumbled up here because I wanted to relax and listen to the music," says Kester Edwards, a 35-year-old Special Olympics coordinator from Trinidad and Tobago. He is grooving with a friend at the bar as a trumpeter plays over the DJ's Afrobeat-house grooves and a congo player adds more beats on top. "It's taking music into the 21st century -- you take three talents and get this! I recommend this joint."
Then he gets up to dance and orders another drink, not worrying that the bartender is going to turn on the lights at 1:30.
