Asylum is probably the only bar in Washington with swords and skulls hanging on the wall. The daily happy hour -- 50-cent wings, $1.50 tacos, $1 off rail drinks and a buck or two off draft beers -- is solid, but Saturday's Natural Light Countdown -- formerly the Miller High Life Countdown -- is simply unbeatable. Beginning at 5, pints of beer are 50 cents. The price rises 50 cents every hour, so even if you arrive at 7:30, you're getting a deal. Bike messengers, motorcycle riders and tattooed rockers love the place, which vibrates to a soundtrack of punk and heavy metal. At 11, the pints hit their full price of $3.50, but everyone keeps drinking away.
