P.G. County's first brewpub is a great place for a beer -- if you go at the right time.

I'm a bit surprised at the posts about the quality of the food; my opinion is that sometimes the chef tries to stretch too far, when simpler fare would suffice (and shine). That said, the BLT is the first one I've ever had where there was enough B, not to mention local T - yummy. Their oyster po' boy sandwich was also good earlier this year. The beer is always good, and it's nice to be able to talk to the brewer whilst imbibing. As for the complaint about kids - well, don't go during prime kiddie times! It's hard to find a decent restaurant that's also kid-friendly. This was one place we could take our daughter and still enjoy an adult meal. The store next door makes it a natural for kids! Oh, and Mike Franklin's a really nice guy!
We are long-time patrons -- used to have lunch there when it was just a sandwich place. The beer is fresh and there's an interesting variety to sample. They also serve wine and martini's; I hear the appletini is very good. It is worth your while to stray off the regular menu and try the seasonal menu (in the middle, also on the chalkboard at the entrance). The chef tries to use local ingredients as much as possible, and gets some herbs and vegetables from the community garden in Riverdale Park. The seasonal salads and salmon specials are fabulous, and the ever-changing bread pudding is definitely worth saving some room for. Bonus points for the adjacent general store and having a great local yarn shop right across the street.

I love the reclaimed hardware store turned gift shop. The store alone is worth the trip. My husband enjoys the microbrew beer, try the sampler on your first visit. The food is passable, but I haven't found anything on the menu that I would totally recommend.
I've found that you should concentrate on the specials at Franklins, that's where they really shine, although the apps and pizzas are good too. And I love that they have more than one vegetarian option. Tough to find at most restaurants in the county. And I have no complaints about the beer!
I don't drink beer, so I don't have any opinion there, but I really wish the food was better at Franklin's because I love the atmosphere and their general store! My husband & I have eaten there 4 times now (hope springs eternal!), hoping to find something that justified the prices they charge for their food, and it has been just...well, not exactly terrible, but not good. Even the bread is tough as leather and tasteless, just awful. I really want to like Franklin's, but the food is just too insipid. If they would just invest more into their cooking, it would be an all around great experience to go there!
Great beer, good food. A little pricey on the entrees, but the pizza and burgers are right on the money and taste great. Go here now.
