Editorial Review

If you're looking for a no-frills spot to sit down, chat and quaff some beer in Georgetown, drop by Garrett's. Th college (or recently collegiate) crowd is low-key and casually dressed, and drawn by the club's fairly hip reputation.

At first glance, you may be surprised by how tight and narrow the space is; the 20-year-old bar area only has nine or 10 tables and a little standing room. But take the stairs to the second-floor terrace – you'll feel you're on your way to see the upstairs neighbors – and you'll discover seating for another 150 people.

Sandwiches and burgers are the menu mainstays, but pricier entrees are available. The jukebox offers an excellent selection of alternative radio rock, '80s power pop or insurgent country. The friendly staff will gladly turn down the volume if asked nicely.
