A Rock and Roll Hotel bartender creates a low-key dive with couches, malt liquor and the occasional DJ.
I went to Jimmy V's for the first time this weekend. The area of Bladensburg is, shall we say, not the most affluent. The front itself just has a large pink glowing "sign" without words, and a heart crotchet over the front window. JVLHC can be described as thus: a small red voodoo opium den. Not a large place, but comfortable, with very cool artwork, decorations, and seating. All of the couches and chairs are one of a kind, there's nothing pretentious about it. The barstools are mostly old barber chairs! The bartender (don't know her name) was really cool and poured strong drinks. Lots of bottle beer selections, and they have this frozen root-beer concoction that is no joke. A chill place, easy to hang out and listen to music. Recommended.
