A pub in the Convention Center becomes a showcase for local brewing powerhouse Old Dominion -- you'll find at least 14 of the company's beers on tap, plus a great happy hour.

I booked a private room at the Old Dominion Brewery for a party I was hosting for 25 of my employees. I made the reservation one month in advance, confirmed the reservation one week in advance and just to make sure confirmed the reservation one more time the day of the party. When I arrived the manager told me he tried to call my cell phone one hour prior to my reservation time and since I didn't answer he gave my private room away to another party. We were forced to sit at three different tables in the main dining room. So much for employee bonding. Just to add salt to the wound the bill included a 22% gratuity.
I've been here numerous times over the last few years and have never had an issue with the food or service beyond the occasional mis-step from someone new. The place has an excellent beer selection, especially if you enjoy the local brew by Old Dominion. It can be hard to find a spot to sit on Saturdays in the fall, but if you're looking for a good bite neat the Convention Center you can't beat this place. A little known fact here is that you can order off the sushi menu from the restaurant next door. It's some of the best sushi I've ever had in DC too!
As all the other reviews revolved around a single incident, and as I have visited this establishment many times in the last two years, here is my opinion. The appetizers are cheap but merely OK. I've had some good food when I have ordered an entree. The beer selection is excellent, with about eight dominion beers on draft and another 8-10 beers from various brewers. Beer towers can be ordered and are a good deal if you have a few people. I can't speak for the alleged crab cake incident. I hope it didn't happen. I know that I'm not aware that anything like that has happened to me at this location.
I was the recipient of the previously eaten crab cake. What appaled me more than anything else was that they tried to disguise this by filling the crab cake with filler and turning it over when it was served. How do you operate a food establishment in this manner? I am from out of town and frequently visit the D.C. area and I will never frequent that place again nor recommend it to anyone. I refuse to be treated like an animal!!!
I was part of a party of 15 on 28 Mar 09. The waiter took our orders. He mixed up the orders and gave crab cakes to the wrong person who had started eating them. The waiter came back after he found that he made a mistake. He insisted on taking the order back. After about five minutes he came back with the same crab cakes and served it to another member in our party. When questioned, he admitted that he told the cook to restuff the crab cakes. We reported this to the MGR, his response was that he would have the waiter pay for the crab cakes?????
I was there with a party of about 10 people. I got a plate and began to eat. Then the waiter told me that he had given me the wrong plate- crab cakes. Honest mistake. So, they took the crab cakes and gave me my meal. A few minutes later, they returned with the crab cakes and gave them to the right person. However, the crab cakes had some uncooked parts. THEY WERE THE SAME CRAB CAKES I HAD BEGUN EATING!!!!! All they had done was fill in some of the parts I had eaten from and given them to my buddy. We immediately told the waiter. HE ADMITTED IT. His comment, "The cook wanted to do it this way.." I then asked for the manager. His comments, "The waiter told the cook to do it." The worst thing I have ever seen in my life!!
My server tried to STEAL MONEY from me. I had a sever that must have thought I was drinking from the large beer pitcher and wouldn't notice the $7.00 he filled in himself on the tip amount when he brought me my credit card slip. When I complained to the manager, I was given a garbled excuse and then a blank stare. Servers that steal from customers and management that could care less --- NEVER AGAIN.
There for football game. We noticed they charged us for something we didn’t order. The waiter got very defensive and accused us of lying. We asked to see a manager since our waiter was not helping us. The manager, whom we discovered was the OWNER, got furious and accused us of lying and started cussing at us! He yelled “how the f**k do you expect me to believe you? F**k off, you have got to be f**king kidding me!” We were stunned that we were being verbally assaulted by the restaurant’s management. They obviously do not know the concept of treating your customers with respect. I find it incomprehensible that the restaurant MANAGEMENT would intentionally insult their guests using profanity. Don’t waste your time and money at Old Dominion.
