The Rumba Cafe is shoebox of a club that hosts live Latin bands Wednesday through Saturday. Despite the fact that there's no dance floor to speak of, folks still manage to twirl and spin between the tables and the bar and the bandstand. The decor is shabby-chic with old instruments and other musical paraphernalia hanging on the wall.
It gets very crowded on weekends, but the pace is slower early in the week. That's the perfect time to sip a freshly made mojito and admire the rotating art shows, or have some baked plantains, sauteed pork loin with sliced pineapple, or the thick black bean soup. Avoid the mojitos on the weekends, though -- bartenders have been known to "pre-mix" them when it's busy.
