An unassuming H Street tavern features enough oddities and side-show freaks to fill a traveling carnival.

Albert Cadabra (Host & Magician) & Gal Friday (Burlesque) were decent last night. The lady bartender downstairs isn't very friendly, the place & stage are too small to really enjoy the show. The monitors don't allow you to see the show very well, but that may be your only option when it gets crowded. Seating is very limited, so be prepared to stand. If you drink a lot, you will need to fight through the crowd to visit the bathroom. The doors opened three hours early, they don't serve real food (popcorn) so it's not realistic to get there that early & just drink, just to get a "good" seat. They allowed a cat in & it walked on the counter to eat cat food - ewwww! The website looks interesting, but the place really isn't. I wouldn't go back.
i agree with person who mentioned the first-floor bartender. when we asked why the place smelled like moth balls, she acted like she didn't know what we were talking about, yet when we mentioned it again, she said it was to preserve the costumes. not the friendliest person but luckily the patrons were. go a little early & grab a stool near the stage to enjoy the antics. it is very hard to see the characters perform, (unless you're 6 foot tall) as the stage is tiny & minimally elevated. there is a large monitor inappropriately sited so you had to look one way to see the live action or the opposite way to view the screen. overall an interesting and inexpensive night out. those with tattoos will feel most at home.
It's a nice space with cool things and pleasant staff. I've met neat people in the crowd too. The only problem is the layout - it can be difficult to see the stage, and difficult to get a bar seat. I keep going back though, for the fascinating stage shows and the good beer selection.
