Dark woods and dark leathers give the Mayflower's bar a clubby feel. Bartender Sambonn Lek is a legend in this town.

I've been going to the Town & Country Lounge for almost a decade, and the changes I saw on my most recent visit saddened me greatly. Most of the funky velvet sofas had been removed, replaced with copious numbers of ugly, uncomfortable club chairs The free appetizers at happy hour were gone, as was the well done, honest bar food menu. The real food has been replaced with overly precious, over-priced appetizers that were pitifully paltry and bad. And no more bowls of roasted nuts, just cheap pretzels in tiny, tiny bowls. Although the very professional and seasoned bar staff is still around, their numbers have been augmented by surly incompetents. This was my favorite bar, but I won't go back again.
I visited the Town and Country Lounge frequently during my week long stay at the Mayflower Hotel. I felt as if I were among friends, even though I was a very long way from home. I enjoyed all of the little time I had to 'visit' with Sam the bartender, and especially the 'supporting staff'who were very friendly, also and who helped me, a small town Alaskan woman feel welcome and at home.
