When it's cold outside but you still need some fresh air, head to one of these bars with outdoor fire pits.

 

A Bar

Washington, DC

The hidden courtyard behind the Avenue Suites' A Bar features heat lamps and a firepit surrounded by sofas and comfortable chairs. Sip mulled wine, a selection of hot toddies and warm spiked cider while you relax. (If you're hungry, fondue is available.)

 

Art and Soul

Washington, DC

Art and Soul's sidewalk patio features a large circular fire pit surrounded by tables and chairs.

 

Biergarten Haus

Washington, DC

With its enormous courtyard full of long tables and benches, Biergarten Haus is perfectly suited for summer evenings and fall afternoons. But when temperatures drop, the H Street bar tents a large portion of its outdoor area and fires up outdoor fireplaces to warm drinkers' toes.

 

Bourbon Steak

Washington, DC

The Four Seasons Hotel's large central courtyard is just off Bourbon Steak's bar, and it's the perfect place to escape with a hot toddy. Ask a server to turn the round metal tables into your own personal fire pit. You may not want to leave.

 

Poste Moderne Brasserie

Washington, DC

The new "Cour de l'hiver" features multiple fire pits surrounded by chairs and all-weather sofas, and, for those who don't get a seat next to the flames, blankets and leopard-print robes for extra warmth. Of course, you can also stay heated with the special savory or sweet fondue dishes, or a menu of hot cocktails, including the Smokin' Bacon Hot Chocolate.

In a neighborhood with a lot of outdoor space, Room 11's patio is the most welcoming in winter, thanks to roaring fire pits, a long menu of toddies, Swedish glogg and warming tea and coffee drinks.
