Best Beach Bars

Fritz Hahn  |  Updated 06/09/2010

Take a break from sun and sand, and relax with a cold one at a seaside hot spot.

Lewes, DE

The best margaritas at the beach can be found at this small Mexican restaurant, which stocks dozens of tequilas and serves fantastic fish tacos.

Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats

Rehoboth Beach, DE

Dogfish Head beers have developed a cult following, and this brew pub doesn't disappoint, with ales you can't taste anywhere else and live music every weekend.

Frogg Pond

Rehoboth Beach, DE

There's always something going on at this laid-back bar: live music, trivia, karaoke and plenty of food and drink specials. Wednesday's game night means free pool and Wii bowling.

Purple Parrot

Rehoboth, DE

Karaoke and drag shows are the weekend highlights at the Parrot, and though the high-energy bar is predominantly gay, it draws a mixed crowd.

The Lighthouse

Dewey Beach, DE

Weekends at Dewey usually start with the Lighthouse's long-running Taco Toss happy hour, which features $2 beers and $1 tacos (and other snacks) from 4 to 9 p.m. After you eat, watch the sunset from the patio.

Dewey Beach, DE

Simplicity itself: Northbeach's main attraction is a large, tented outdoor bar situated directly on the beach and surrounded by palm trees. Grab a frozen drink, kick off your shoes and wiggle your toes in the sand.

The Starboard

Dewey Beach, DE

One of the most popular places east of the Bay Bridge, this sprawling indoor-outdoor spot has DJs, drink specials and beer pong. The day-long "Suicide Sundays" party, with live music and a bloody mary bar, is legendary.

Bethany Beach, DE

A prime location overlooking the boardwalk and the ocean makes this a destination, but don't miss the tiki-style drinks, which can be served in ceramic parrots or coconuts. Favorite house concoctions include the Mangorita, a slushy orange beverage, and the Grapefruit Crush, which includes grapefruit vodka and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice.

Catch 54

Fenwick Island, DE

The most relaxing place at the shore? An Adirondack chair on the back patio of Catch 54 - with drink in hand, and a view of the calm bay and plenty of wildlife, including soaring herons. The food ranks among the best in the area.

Bull on the Beach

Ocean City, MD

A favorite of locals, the casual Bull has fantastic bartenders and great daily specials on both drinks and the raw bar.

Fager's Island

Ocean City, MD

Want to get crazy? Everyone is ready to party at this waterfront bar, which has incredible views and plenty of outdoor seating, plus DJs and live music. Just watch out for the ever-present bachelorette groups.

Macky's Bayside Bar & Grill

Ocean City, MD

A private stretch of beach with tables, chairs and beer pong. A dance floor just steps away. Cheap drinks. You won't want to leave.
