Singed crusts, sweet sauce, melted cheese: what's not to like? Here are some of our favorite places to grab a piping-hot pie.
The light-filled dining room serves up a taste of Naples in Cleveland Park. Try clams or pancetta atop the nicely charred thin crusts. Families with young children crowd tables in the early evening.
The chewy pizzas are on the small side, but prime ingredients set them apart. And, yes, you can play a few games of Ping-Pong in the back.
Oversize slices that drip with glistening cheese, the Italian Store's takeout pies come closest to New York-style in the area.
The boutique pizzas make use of dream toppings such as smoked Gouda, cremini mushrooms and spicy house-made meatballs. Both locations offer a sleek, casual atmosphere that's good for first dates -- if you don't mind the wait for a table.
With its pleasant yellow-and-green color scheme, Mia's is perhaps one of the most cheerful pizza parlors in the area and is popular with Bethesda families. Go for the salsiccia for its mix of sausage, pepperoni and portobello.
Pete's has become a takeout favorite among food fans in Columbia Heights. The thin-crust clam pie is light on sauce like the Connecticut pizzas that inspired it.
Multiple Locations
Paradiso has long been considered one of the best pizza providers in town because of its attention to crust. At its new location on P Street, the restaurant now has a larger dining room and a 15-seat beer bar.
The exposed-brick interior lends a hipster-hangout vibe to the restaurant, which offers brick-oven pies dotted with rounds of mozzarella.
