Some restaurants offer great prix-fixe deals. Others are just reliable eateries to know about near performance spaces.

With an $800,000 makeover and a new chef in place, 701 has reestablished itself as a great place to dine before a play at Woolly Mammoth or Shakespeare Theatre. On Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant off ers its pre-theater menu post-show, as well. ($28.95 for three courses. 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. daily and 10 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.)
Cafe Atlantico
Washington, DC
Also nearby, the vibrant nuevo Latino restaurant draws theatergoers with a prix-fixe menu and adventurous cocktails. ($35 for three courses. 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.)
Cafe du Parc
Washington, DC
Simple, elegant and well priced for downtown, the classy French bistro is close to the National and Warner theaters. (Entrees $19.95 to $28.95.)
Carlyle
Arlington, VA
Of all the restaurants near the Signature Theatre, we like the Carlyle for its reliable American food and efficient service. (Entrees $17 to $24.)
Marcel's
Washington, DC
The entire menu is your oyster at Marcel's, near the Kennedy Center. Select from options such as boudin blanc or butter-poached lobster. $52 for three courses. Price includes transportation to and from the theater.
Rasika
Washington, DC
The alluring atmosphere is a great prelude to the show to come. Sup on Indian specialties such as tandoori salmon and lamb rogan josh. ($30 for three courses. 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 5 to 6:45 p.m. on Saturdays.)
Woodmont Grill
Bethesda, MD
Th e former Houston's offers hefty portions of well-prepared American standards such as salads, steaks and burgers. The restaurant is within a mile of Round House Theatre, Bethesda Theatre and Imagination Stage. (Entrees $19 to $35.)
