It's hard to find a pint for less than $5 in most dive bars these days. Unless, that is, you try one of these happy hours, where you'll pay no more than a buck. Just don't forget to tip.

Friday happy hour at the Bottom Line is run on a countdown system: Miller Lite bottles cost $1 from 4 to 7 p.m., $2 from 7 to 9 p.m., then $2.50 until 1 a.m., at which point they drop to $1 until last call. Rail drinks cost $3 all night, and there are $3.50 baskets of wings to snack on.
This bar is hidden down Second Street NW near the Department of Labor, but it's worth seeking out. Hamilton's made its reputation with $1 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon all day and night on Fridays. You also can get Miller High Life for the same price.
This Connecticut Avenue bar draws crowds most nights for happy hour, but it gets busiest on Thursdays, when 10-ounce mugs of Bud Light cost $1 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Arrive before 8 for $3 beers and rail drinks and $5 appetizers.
One of the hippest neighborhood bars around, the Derby is known for its menu of dozens of canned beers. At happy hour, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on weekdays, all beers drop $1 in price, which makes Schlitz and Natty Boh $1 per can. Whiskey shots are $3. Get there early for a seat on the roof deck.
In addition to its daily two-for-one drink deals from 4 to 7 p.m., the Sign of the Whale sells $1 mugs of Bud Light from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Tuesdays.
