Best bets for museums this week

Michael O'Sullivan and Stephanie Merry | Washington Post Staff Writers  |  Updated 11/21/2009

Some arty ideas for the days ahead, including "Terra Cotta Warriors," left.

Judith Leyster (1609-1660)

Washington, DC  | Through 11/29

Our museum walls are underpopulated by great women artists. Which is why you should see "Judith Leyster, 1609-1660" before it closes at the National Gallery of Art next Sunday. The show, a 400th birthday celebration, features 10 pictures by the Dutch baroque painter. But they more than hold their own against works by her reputed teacher, Frans Hals, and her husband, Jan Miense Molenaer.

Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China's First Emperor

Washington, DC  | Through 3/31/10

Fifteen 2,000-year-old figures, among the thousands discovered in the underground tomb of a Chinese emperor, go on display.

Maize of the Americas

Washington, DC  | 11/27 - 11/29

Learn about the Americas' contributions to cuisine through hands-on activities and demonstrations.

The Art of Power: Royal Armor and Portraits from Imperial Spain

Washington, DC  | Through 11/29

Time is running out to see selections from the Spanish Royal Armory alongside paintings by Rubens, Velazquez and van Dyck.
