A week's worth of taco happy hours

Fritz Hahn  |  Updated 09/10/2012

Taco happy hours are so plentiful in Washington that you can find a special every night. Most of the restaurants and bars that offer taco deals aren't even nominally Mexican, but it's often hard to beat the price. | Photos: D.C. taquerias

Whitlow's on Wilson

Arlington, VA

Six days out of the week, Whitlow's is a taco-free zone. But from 4 to 11 p.m. on Sundays, the restaurant's Taco Night adds $4 and $4.50 tacos to the menu. Stick around for the weekly pub quiz, which begins at 8 p.m.

Rams Head On Stage

Annapolis, MD

Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis offers free beef tacos from 5 to 7 p.m. with the purchase of any drink ($2.75 draft beers, rail drinks or house wine).

Smoke and Barrel

Washington, DC

Get three of Smoke and Barrel's house-smoked tacos (brisket, smoked tofu, pulled pork or pulled chicken) and one side, including collard greens and ham, fried okra or coleslaw, for $5 all night.

H Street Country Club

Washington, DC

Buy two drinks at H Street Country Club (ranging from a $4.50 Tecate to $7 house margaritas) and get $1 tacos until 10 p.m.

The Front Page - Ballston

Arlington, VA

The Dupont Circle location of the Front Page is famous for its intern-friendly happy hour, but its Ballston sibling with the more grown-up scene is just as kind to your wallet. From 5 to 8 p.m., get two tacos for $1. Pair that with drink specials that run from 3 to 8 p.m., including $3.25 draft beers and rail drinks and $3.50 house wine.

Washington, DC

Oyamel's happy hour menu offers three types of tacos: beef stewed in Oaxacan-style chiles, Yucatan-style pit-barbecued pork or chicken mixed with vegetables. Two tacos cost $5 between 4 and 6 p.m. on weekdays, but only at the bar. Wash them down with $4 Mexican beers or $5 margaritas or Mexican wines. Available Monday-Friday.

El Chucho

Washington, DC

El Chucho's daily happy hour offers the best taco deal in town. From 4 to 6:30 p.m., all tacos are half-price, which means a pair of al pastor, chicken or calabacita tacos will set you back just $2.50. Carne asada tacos cost $3, and two tripe-and-foie-gras tacos are $4. All drinks on tap are $4, including the house margaritas.
