Artist Sonya Lawyer’s installation “A Peace (of the Dream),” which opens Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flashpoint Gallery, combines vintage family photographs with scraps of colored fabric in a quiltlike array that alludes to memory and storytelling.
The centerpiece of Lawyer’s show is “i.you.he.she.they.we.(us),” an interactive project in which the artist will construct a large quilt on the gallery’s back wall using photographs brought in by visitors. (The photos will be immediately scanned and returned.) Contributors also are invited to share family stories.
Lawyer will be in the gallery, working on the quilt, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 2 to 6 p.m. Those who want to contribute to the project but are unable to attend a quilt--making event are invited to e--mail their photos to firstname.lastname@example.org.
