The Brooklyn--based Sketchbook Project is a crowd--sourced library of thousands of handmade, one--of--a--kind artist books, from which selections are periodically exhibited around the country in a custom--built bookmobile. This weekend, the rolling library stops at Alexandria’s Torpedo Factory Arts Center.
Part of the center's Art Activated, the Sketchbook Project visit coincides with the weekend--long King Street Art Festival, which takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on and around King Street in Old Town. During the festival, Sketchbook Project co--founders Steven and Sara Peterman will highlight selections from the library's Memoir Project, which includes hundreds of handwritten true stories.
