Best known for gritty black--and--white street photography, Michael Horsley will be juxtaposing images from that body of work with Western landscapes in “At the Crossroad: A Topography of Space, Time and Memory.” The show opens Friday at the D.C. Arts Center.

For Horsley, a Washington artist whose practice includes performance art and filmmaking, his moodily evocative pictures, which only superficially explore the effects of human development, are less cold--blooded documents of place than “imagined locations or dreamscapes.”
