Some scenes demand your attention. Not all of them deserve it.

On Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., Hillyer Art Space opens a pair of photography shows that focus on unobtrusive beauty - the overlooked details of the world around us. Reminiscent, in some ways, of photographer Lewis Baltz's images of urban and industrial landscapes, the photos of David Emerick and Matt Crooks also document structures that were never meant to be looked at. They're photographs of forgotten things and places.

"David Emerick: Variations" and "Matt Crooks: Opposing Planes" run through Aug. 26 at 9 Hillyer Ct. NW. 202-338-0680. www.artsandartists.org/hillyer. Admission to the opening is a $5 suggested donation.
