On Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., the Greater Reston Arts Center will host an opening reception for its fall solo exhibitions, which spotlight the art of Jungmin Park and Ajay Leister. Both of these emerging area artists are known for hybrid, hard--to--categorize work that incorporates fiber, albeit in ways that are closer to fine art than to craft.

Lester, a sculptor, will showcase his strange, biomorphic abstractions made from crocheted yarn, wood and spray foam (yes, the stuff you buy at the hardware store). Park, who was trained as a painter, makes abstract compositions that suggest physical space distorted by memory and emotion. Part deconstructed paintings, part sculptures, they often incorporate needlework and mixed--media collage. Both artists will give a gallery talk about their work at 6 p.m.
