Photographer Colin Winterbottom has made a name for himself celebrating the beauty of architecture, with a portfolio that includes shots of many iconic Washington buildings.
In collaboration with Washington National Cathedral, Winterbottom set out to document the restoration of some of the structure’s hand-carved details that were damaged in the Aug. 23, 2011, earthquake. His exhibition of those photographs, “Gothic Resilience,” opens Thursday at Long View Gallery, with a reception from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Winterbottom says he hopes the images will highlight not brokenness, but what he calls the building’s “bruised beauty.”
