Gallery opening of the week
By Michael O'Sullivan
Friday, Oct. 7, 2011
Artist Steven Frost - a former Washingtonian now based in Chicago - is known for provocative work involving embroidery, with a conceptual edge. On Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., Pleasant Plains Workshop will host a free opening reception for an exhibition of Frost's latest pieces, which critique the competitive, male-dominated world of sports by altering and embellishing equipment from athletics and Mexican wrestling. The opening will include a performance by the artist at 8 p.m. If you can't make it, stop by Saturday at 4 p.m. for a free artist's talk.
"Human Mansprings" runs through Nov. 12 at 2608 Georgia Ave. NW. www.pleasantplainsworkshop.com. 202-415-1466.
