In his work of the past several years, Bernhard Hildebrandt has explored the relationship between painting, photography and film. It’s an exploration that will continue with the Baltimore artist’s “A Conjugation of Verb,” opening Thursday at the Phillips Collection.
The show is part of the museum’s “Intersections” program, in which contemporary artists are invited to show work that creates a dialogue with objects in the collection of the Phillips and, in some cases, with the museum building itself. For “Conjugation,” Hildebrandt has created a video using a sequence of photographic images of El Greco’s famous painting “The Repentant St. Peter (c--1600--1605).
