On Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., the Athenaeum will host a free reception for "Into the Light," an exhibition introducing gallerygoers to the work of two recent graduates of the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
Each of them crafts work around the theme of deterioration. Photographer Esther Meena Yi uses an obscure photo processing technique called mordancage to create silver gelatin prints of classic artworks that appear to be peeling. Ceramicist Victoria Shaheen's porcelain installation features what look like multiple broken lightbulbs.
Curated by Amy Morton of Morton Fine Art, "Into the Light" is on view through Jan. 22 at 201 Prince St., Alexandria. 703-548-0035. www.nvfaa.org.
