Two styles of realism will be on view when Connersmith opens a pair of exhibitions this weekend. “Enduring” features the canvases of Katie Miller, a young area painter whose recent formal portrait series focuses on children; “Alive and Present” features still lifes by Agniet Snoep, a Dutch photographer known for tableaus centered on small, dead animals.
While certainly deadpan, neither Miller's nor Snoep's work is without implicit commentary, with "Enduring" offering a reflection on childhood innocence and power, and "Alive and Present" exploring the tension between beauty and death.
Both shows open with a public reception Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., preceded by an artist’s talk at 5 p.m.
