Art review: ‘Next’ at the Corcoran Gallery of Art
Student art work offers a glimpse at the art world’s up-and-comers.

For students at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, the future is uncertain, and not just because of the recently announced plan to hand over control of the school to George Washington University. A career in art has always been a gamble.
That sense of a fraught transition ---- a mix of dread and excitement over the demands and rewards of an art career, tempered by memories of academic freedom ---- is embodied in the word “Next,” which the school has used since 2011 as the title of its graduating class’s thesis exhibition. The work of the current crop of graduates, which takes up much of the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s second floor, goes on view Thursday.
