Gallery opening of the week

"Party Crashers: Comic Book Culture Invades the Art World" is a two-part show about serious art's embrace of the comic (meaning both "funny" and, you know, the funnies). The first half opened last month at the Arlington Arts Center, and the other debuts Saturday at Artisphere with a free reception from 8 to 11 p.m.

That evening is also the official launch of "Art on the ART Bus," a program that will turn one Arlington Transit bus into a regular rolling gallery, complete with original works of art on board. On Saturday evening, that bus will offer "Party Crashers" attendees free shuttle service between Artisphere (1101 Wilson Blvd.) and the Arlington Arts Center (3550 Wilson Blvd.) from 8 to 11 p.m. At 11:01, the band Sweatheart performs at Artisphere. Tickets to the concert are $12; draw a one-frame comic on site -- yes, you have to draw it at the door -- and get in for only $10.
