The painter Richard Estes is known for his hyper--realistic renderings of cityscapes ---- all gleaming chrome and glass. And those pictures will certainly be in evidence when the Smithsonian American Art Museum opens the exhibition “Richard Estes’ Realism” on Friday.
But his most famous images will share the spotlight with several of the artist’s less well--known landscapes. Pictures of the natural world ---- ranging from Central Park to Antarctica ---- will round out the painter’s uncanny canvases of the urban jungle.
