Painters Steven Cushner and William Willis make a good pairing. Their boldly graphic abstractions grapple with big, muscular forms in surprisingly nuanced ways.
On Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., Hemphill Fine Arts will host an opening reception for “William Willis: Keeping It Alive,” and “Steven Cushner: Works on Paper.” It’s not the first time they’ve shown together. Two years ago, Hemphill paired Cushner’s paintings with Willis’s works on paper. Now they’re trading roles, with Cushner switching to paper, and Willis to canvas.
