Once a private hospital, this hotel retains more than a little knowledge of good bedside manner. In fact, the staff goes to great lengths to make your stay comfortable.

Rooms are furnished in soothing, understated brown and green fabrics with complementary blond-wood armoires and tables.

Details matter here: Candy dishes are heaped with sweets; hi-speed internet access is offered free in guest rooms; tasteful floral prints decorate walls; and green marble vanities (hand-carved in Guatemala) grace baths. Complimentary coffee is available in-room; mail is delivered to your door.

Scotch connoisseurs can sample from among 104 single malt selections while piano music tinkles in the background. Finish off the evening with grilled steaks or seafood at the on-site Washington Grill restaurant.

Work off the calories at the hotel's well-equipped fitness club. A television set helps the time and the exercise fly by.
