A Capitol Fourth

Editorial Review

All right, folks, you know the drill: take Metro, bring water and leave the giant beach chairs at home.

Capitol grounds open at 3 p.m.; musical performances begin at 8 p.m. The fireworks on the other side of the Mall go off around 9:10 p.m.

This 90-minute concert is broadcast live nationally on PBS and NPR stations and features Reba McEntire, Gladys Knight, Darius Rucker, David Archuleta, John Schneider, classical pianist Lang Lang with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Choral Arts Society of Washington. The finale is a rendition of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" featuring the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets and live cannon fire provided by the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery. Also: Lots of fireworks.
