Our Review

Here at Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park, Robert E. Lee, commanding general of the army of Northern Virginia, surrendered his men to Ulysses S. Grant and the Union forces in 1865. Visitors can tour the battlefields along a six-mile history trail, visit museum exhibits and listen to audio-visual programs or ranger talks. The park encompasses approximately 1,700 acres in rural central Virginia and includes the McLean home (surrender site).
