The only bad part about staying up until midnight to taste the first Beaujolais Nouveau is having to go to work the next morning. The Alliance Francaise cultural institute is waiting until the weekend for its annual wine-and-cheese tasting bash, which features French standards and pop songs performed by "piano man" Jerry Roman from 6:30 to 9. DJ Herve of the popular Planete Chic events spins French house and electro from 9 until 10:30. Admission is $35; it's $25 for Alliance members.
