The annual festival, which takes over Pennsylvania Avenue on Sunday afternoon, features vendors, family activities, food and drink, live music, drag and dance performances.
The Capital Pride Street Festival draws between 250,000 and 300,000 visitors each year, equal to roughly *HALF* the entire population of the District of Columbia. It is the largest attendance of any single annual event throughout the National Capital Region, second only to the 4th of July on the Mall. How the Post can regularly virtually ignore over a quarter of a million people, outdoors in broad daylight, on Pennsylvania Avenue between the U.S. Capitol and the White House, is beyond comprehension. Ignore the drag queens, dancing cowboys, and leatherfolk (please), but cover the vast numbers of ordinary GLBT citizens of the District, Virginia, and Maryland who turn out - many with their families - for this event, every year.
Surely the Post could have given more information concerning these two events. This may not seem like major events to some, but to those of us who look forward to the Pride Festival and Parade, we deserve better coverage. A few words and a map doesn't accord the respect we should be able to expect.
