Capital Pride is always inextricably tied to politics, but if this year's parade and festival have even more of a hint of eager anxiety, it's because they're taking place in June, the same month the Supreme Court is expected to rule on gay rights cases about DOMA and Prop. 8. Maybe that will amplify this year's celebration: The parade, on June 8, will feature a new extended route. It still begins at 22nd and P streets NW, west of Dupont Circle. But instead of ending shortly after it passes the viewing stand by the P Street Whole Foods, it will continue north on 14th Street until S Street, giving us three more blocks of glittery drag queens, scantily-clad performers, and troupes of community supporters marching in solidarity.
