Saturday
The parade, filled with marching steel bands, extravagantly decorated costumes and plenty of dancing groups, starts at 11 at Georgia and Missouri avenues NW and marches down Georgia to Banneker Field, near Howard University, where you'll find the festival grounds, called De Savannah, packed with vendors, families and live music. Legendary Caribbean veterans Traffic Jam headline, with popular singers Iwer George & TC, Patch and Tizzy performing alongside DJs and local bands.

The marketplace will be open from noon to 8 p.m. and there is a $10 admission charge.

Sunday
If you've recovered from Saturday's Carnival festivities and all the post-Carnival parties, head back to De Savannah for family events and a day-long concert featuring "Queen of Soca" Alison Hinds, reigning Soca Monarch Kenneth Salick and others. The marketplace will be open from noon to 7 p.m., with a $10 admission charge.

Last year was my first time attending carnival. I am looking forward to attending and being apart of all the festivities again tomorrow! This year, I will be taking more exciting, interesting and colorful pictures of the people, the costumes, the mud, and the snakes...:) Yes! The snakes must come out and enjoy the warmth and sunshine, too! Yay!

I love the parade, it's always a blast to be there! It's like one big soca dance party in the streets. Come prepared to dance, but I know you won't be able to help it once the beats start filling the streets! Also, be sure to bring your camera & lots of free memory! Last year I maxed out my SD card taking pictures of all the amazing & colorful costumes. This festival is just one of the many reasons I love living in DC!
