Das Best Oktoberfest

Editorial Review

This one is probably not for the kids: If Oktoberfest were a college frat party, it would be Das Best Oktoberfest. From the porky dudes doing the Truffle Shuffle in the Best Beer Belly contest to the mix of funky blues and cover bands on the main stage, this two-day festival at National Harbor is less of a traditional Oktoberfest than an excuse to be outside drinking with your buddies, possibly while wearing a lederhosen T-shirt or a St. Pauli Girl-style dress. (This one is also not for the beer geeks: Natty Boh, Guinness, Strongbow Cider and Jeremiah Weed Spiked Cola are among the options on the lengthy "Drink Menu" for your sampling pleasure, along with a handful of German and American seasonal beers.)

Thousands of revelers head to National Harbor to browse the beer tents, catch some tunes, including JunkFood and the Kelly Bell Band, try waltzing to traditional German bands and hit up food stands selling everything from bratwurst to crab cakes. Aside from the aforementioned beer belly contest, there's a Miss Oktoberfest contest, a homebrew contest and a "best pretzel necklace" contest, which really speaks for itself.
