A grand neighborhood celebration to commemorate the repair of the historic Eastern Market, shuttered in April 2007 due to a fire. The return of vendors, farmers and merchants is the most fitting tribute to the undiminished vitality of the place, but on top of that there will be tours, an exhibit on the market's history, family activities and live performances from a blend of musicians appropriate to the diversity of the place, including jazzers Yamomanem, bluesmen Memphis Gold and Jay Summerour, and Andean troupe Runakuna. A precious thing has been restored to the D.C. community, the Eastern Market, now plunging into its 136th year.
