The Asia Trail -- which features new homes for the Zoo's sloth bears, Asian small-clawed otters, clouded leopards, Japanese giant salamanders, red pandas and fishing cats -- will be complete and open to the public on Tuesday, Oct. 17. In honor of this momentous occasion, the zoo will celebrate twice -- once on opening day, and again, on Saturday, Oct. 21.

A children's parade kicks off the Tuesday festivities. After the parade, visitors can be among the first to check out the new habitats. The first 200 guests receive a commemorative flag.

Saturday's events celebrate this expansion with keeper talks, animal enrichment activities and feedings. Designers will discuss the "green" elements of the new exhibit: architectural details like solar power and green roofs.
