Some fans of the Renwick Gallery may have missed the announcement that the Smithsonian’s museum of craft will be closing, beginning Dec. 9, for renovations expected to last into 2016. In the meantime, you can still catch the Renwick’s last two special exhibitions before the shutdown: “A Measure of the Earth: The Cole--Ware Collection of American Baskets” and “Infinite Place: The Ceramic Art of Wayne Higby.”
A good time to stop by is Wednesday evening, when the gallery will host its last craft--themed Handi--hour at the gallery until renovations are complete. Beginning in March of next year, the regular event, which features craft activities, craft beer and snacks from 5:30 to 8 p.m., will be held at the Luce Foundation Center of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
