The inauguration events kick off with a free concert that will feature U2, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce and Sheryl Crow, among others.

Unfortunately, there was a stage set-up in front of the memorial, so despite the fact that we were very close to the front of the memorial in the general admission area, this stage blocked our view of the concert!
HBO is rebroadcasting the concert later. Any bars showing it on a TV?
How many people will say I was in DC in 2009 for the Obama inaugural Festival? It is something to make the whole country proud. It's the "Woodstock" for a new genmeation.
GO TO NBC4.COM AND GO TO THE "ABOUT TOWN" SECTION. EVERY SINGLE QUESTION YOU HAVE IS ANSWERED THERE!!! LIKE WHAT TO BRING AND YES CHAIRS ARE ALLOWED... OH AND TOM HANKS IS GONNA B THERE!! HOPE THIS HELPS SEE YOU THERE
This isn't even a thorough press release. What happened to what I thought was a journalistic practice of anticipating obvious reader questions?
god the post's info is THIN! If we get there latish (12 p.m.), will we be able to squeeze onto the mall? any thoughts? Also, will there be security checkpoints, like they have during the 4th? I know they're not sposed to have them for the 20th, not sure about this concert. POST where are you with answers?
Hey, I found the list of prohibited items for the concert. They're the same as for inauguration day. http://wtop.com/?nid=25&pid=0&sid=1566460&page=2 What security restrictions are in place for the National Mall and Lincoln Memorial on Jan. 18, the day of the concerts? Prohibited items are the same as for the parade route and swearing-in viewing stands. * Firearms * Ammunition * Explosives * Weapons of any kind * Aerosols * Supports for signs and placards * Packages * Coolers * Thermal or glass containers * Backpacks * Bags exceeding the size restrictions of 8"x6"x4" * Laser pointers * Animals other than helper/guide dogs # Structures # Bicycles # Any other item deemed to be a hazard.
I have never been able to find any info on rehearsal dates and times for concerts on the mall. Any tips on where to search?
You can find this info on www.SecretService.gov . Prohibited Items: As a security precaution, the following items will be prohibited from the Inaugural parade route, the White House reviewing stand and the Inaugural balls: firearms, ammunition, explosives, weapons of any kind, aerosols, supports for signs and placards, packages, coolers, thermal or glass containers, backpacks, bags exceeding size restrictions (8"x6"x4"), laser pointers, animals other than helper/guide dogs, structures, bicycles and any other items determined to be a potential safety hazard. With respect to signs and placards, items must be made of cardboard, poster board or cloth and have dimensions no greater than three (3) feet in width, 20 feet in length and one-quarter
Does anyone know what items are prohibited? Can you bring foldout chairs, blankets, food, drink, etc? I can't find this anywhere.
Just got off the phone with Comcast. They will transmit the HBO signal to all users who have a box, regardless of whether you have an HBO subscription or not. I'm in Lanham so that's Channel 300 (Hi-Def) and 301! Nice job Comcast!
As a Christian, I'm so excited to hear Bishop Gene Robinson one of Christianity greatest leaders. The free concert by Bruce Springsteen and others will be great also.
This Blogpaper doesn't have all the info. From the PIC website: HBO will televise the event on an open signal, working with all of its distributors to allow Americans across the country with access to cable, telcos or satellite television to join in the Opening Celebration for free.

The concert is on Sunday not Saturday.
Will this be broadcast by any other TV stations, in addition to HBO? Not everyone has cable TV, and if a major station pics it up, it would increase accessibility and guarantee a big audience.
The story in the post has a wrong start time of 7 PM (HBO broadcast) and the daclendar has the wrong day (Saturday instead of Sunday). I guess when you have hugh lay-offs you need the blogs to get not just the news right but even the Five Ws of Journalism
What is a good time to arrive?
A great way to start off the festivities!
