Crunch on free Cheez-It crackers while you admire the 6-foot, 8-inch-tall, life-size carving of a standing Abraham Lincoln in a top hat. The carving, which took expert carver Trey Landwehr 40 hours to make from a 1,000 block of Wisconsin cheddar cheese, will be displayed rain or shine for three hours only. (After that, the outer protective layer is cut off and the edible cheese will be donated to charity.)
If there is good weather, organizers will have cameras and computers available so you can immediately start sharing pictures.
As you might guess from the giveaway here, Cheez-It commissioned this carving, the first one to come to D.C. Others, depicting Mt. Rushmore and the signing of the Declaration of Independence, have been displayed in New York and Philadelphia, respectively, in previous years. Call 212-679-6600, Ext. 218 for more information.
