Presidents' Day: Fun-Filled History LessonsBy Jessica McFadden
Special to the Washington Post
February 6, 2009
Lincoln Family Day will include loads of hands-on activities. Big kids can create their own presidential proclamation, decipher secret telegrams sent to the Union Army during the Civil War and dress up in a beard and top hat and deliver part of the Gettysburg Address. Younger children can hear readings of children's books, play games, make toys from Lincoln's era and build their own log cabins using -- what else? -- Lincoln Logs. Musicians will perform, and reenactors dressed as the president and first lady Mary Todd Lincoln will mingle with visitors.
