Local Music Day

Editorial Review

Today is Local Music Day in D.C. What does that mean exactly? It means when you walk into stores and shops such as Tryst, Busboys and Poets, Hello Cupcake and Toki Underground, the music you’ll hear coming through the speakers will be exclusively by local bands.

There are eight featured artists: indie-rock faves U.S. Royalty, Deleted Scenes and Modern Man; singer-songwriters Olivia Mancini and Rene Moffatt; reggae duo See-I; jazz saxophonist Brian Settles; and jazz singer Andrea Wood.

We’re written about many of these artists. There was a June 2010 profile on Mancini. A November 2010 Style section profile on U.S. Royalty. A July 2011 review of See-I’s debut album. And in this Friday’s section we’ll have a profile of Deleted Scenes; for now you can read a 2009 feature on the band.

The Listen Local First Web site has a full list of participating locations where you can hear the local tunes.
