    Hill Country's Backyard Barbecue

Nothing says summer like an outdoor barbecue, which makes the thought of enjoying Hill Country's savory meats on the National Building Museum's west lawn especially tantalizing this time of year. Friday night is the debut of Hill Country's Backyard Barbecue series, with smoky brisket, pork and chicken sandwiches, frosty Shiner beer, cold cocktails, margaritas and live roots music on the weekends. All entrees are $10 and there's no admission fee. Don your bibs and honky tonk boots every Friday from 4 to 11 p.m., Saturday from noon to 11 p.m., Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. and Wednesday-Thursday from 4 to 11 p.m. throughout the summer.

    Mini Golf

Since when did the National Building Museum become as much fun as a boardwalk arcade? First, the museum partnered with Hill Country for regular barbecues on its front lawn; now, there's mini-golf. The museum's course layout for 2013 has 18 holes -- up from 12 last year -- imagined by D.C. design and architecture firms, who drew on a variety of building-themed influences, none of whom are named Pete Dye or Robert Trent Jones. The courses are open during museum hours, with late-night golf nights June 6, June 26, July 11, July 24, Aug. 8 and Aug. 22, when the holes will stay open until 9 p.m.
