National Capital Barbecue Battle

Please note: This event has already occurred.
Here in Washington, we're living in a golden age of slow-smoked meats, with a new purveyor of pulled pork, pit beef, brisket or smoked sausage opening faster than you can say "Lipitor." The annual National Capital Barbecue Battle is a chance for out-of-towners to join locals in a competition to see who will be crowned National Pork Barbecue Champion. (Yes, that's a real award. The winner goes on to compete in the World Barbecue Championship.) Sample more than 20 kinds of barbecue, hear music from 30 bands on three stages and keep plenty of napkins handy Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

super disappointing

you can't sample the bbq prepared by the competitors! when i asked the staff at the judges tent where we could by good bbq, they suggested johnsonville brats or famous dave's. seriously. otherwise you have the usual combo of marketing booths blasting bad music, $6 beers, and crappy/expensive food. stay away.

prices wrong

$10 advance, $12 at the gate - children 12 and under free
