First I would like to point out that I have been and will continue to support President-elect Obama and his plans for the future of this country. As an adamant supporter, I too volunteered at my local campaign office and have volunteered for one of the inauguration activities on Tues, 1/20. After hearing that a community ball was being planned, I was gleeful that I might perhaps get to attend at least that one, since the other official balls were certainly off-limits. Today, Fri, 1/16, I am just finding out that tickets may be gone for the Neighborhood ball without any prior information on how to obtain one (distribution through local businesses or organizations......which ones????) Not a word. Disappointed is all I can say.
FYI people complaining about DC residents getting freebies--the tickets are being distributed through some select organizations that if you're not a part of you just get left out...and the $25 tickets went on sale quietly to Obama insiders. not normal DC residents like me (who donated to the campaign, volunteered, and voted for the man). So I, as a DC resident, am very disappointed as well.
To the previous posters... Residents of DC are always ignored and neglected, heck, we don't even get a representative in congress! What you do you mean "so many freebies????" It seems everyone else in the country thinks we are not ordinary people - DC residents are not congressmen/women or politicians (in fact most of them live in wealthy suburbs of VA and MD) we are hard-working blue collar people. I was excited to see that there was actually going to be an event for us, because we usually just have to put up with the traffic, trash, and expense of hosting others while getting nothing in return. However, I heard about this event from various news sources, but I know no one who has actually recieved a ticket or how to get on
I can not understand why the people of washington are entiled to so many freebies.I read that tickets went on sale for $25 I never got an email, but keep getting emails about donating money. How about donating 2 of those tickets to my husband and I since we are and will continue to be long time Obama supporters
The reports from the begining made it sound like people other than area residients would be able to obtain thikets to the Neighborhood Ball and now it sounds like only DC residents will be able to obtain tickets. I thought that this was to be an equal opportunity event.Iam very disappointed in the news I am reading. I supported Obama just as much as the next person so why not make tickets available to all on a first come first served basis? Disappointed in Alabama
